Audioteque: Same Sights, New Light.

It’s exactly one year today that we released our sophomore album “Same Sights, New Light”, so in conclusion we celebrate this day with a new episode of Audioteque and write about the title track of that very record…

“Same Sights, New Light” was the first song to be properly recorded for the album. Also probably the fastest to be finished. It started in late autumn of 2008. The song was lying around for some weeks, we went for this one to get into the recording mode… It all started with Nils and Andreas meeting and recording the guitar parts, then adding the piano to the end section. After that we recorded the vocalssome weeks later, which was in early december 2008. When we showed Sepp the still pretty rough piece, he added a formant synth bass to the end section which changed the dynamics and the feeling of the song quite drastically. Soon a lot of delay and reverse tracks were added to the picture as well as other, quite subtle instruments. At this stage it got a first live rendition at a special concert evening shortly before christmas 2008, featuring our dear friend Petula on extra guitar. When we approached it again in early spring, we added the drums we recorded at UdK Berlin to the mix and it all blew through the ceiling. That’s it! Mixing it was quite an undertaking, but to be honest the whole album was a beast to finish. So many tracks.

Though unintended to be the title song for the album at first, the song title was picked by our friend and artwork director Romy Blümel, because we needed a dummy title to place in the artwork for her drafts… The more we saw it and the more the album was coming together, the more it became the title for the record. Since it fits the mood we tried to transport with the songs and pictures that come with it. New perspectives on things you might knew. 


The album is accompanied by artwork made by our friend Romy Blümel and so far spawned two singles, lead track “Misery Box” and second single “Spies In The Trees”, each released as free download packages. You can still get a hold of them here and here. Just go for it, be our guest!

Here is one of the first performances of the song, recorded during our release show tour. We were a bit nervous, but… there you go.
